Nik (Nikhil) Chawla, Attorney and Co-Founder of New Chapter Law Group
Nik, a native San Diegan, was born and raised in North County. Having grown up in Encinitas and Carlsbad, and still a Carlsbad resident, Nik has personally witnessed the evolution of North County over the last 30 years. With family roots firmly planted in the North County, Nik commuted to La Jolla to attend the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology.
After graduating from UCSD, Nik spent several years working for small start-up companies in fields such as biotech and information technology. Nik went on to attend the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in Old Town San Diego where he excelled in legal writing and research classes, eventually earning top grade awards in each class.
Driven by his desire to help clients in one-on-one client interactions, before and after graduating from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, Nik worked for a local boutique family law firm which utilized the then new “Collaborative Approach” to traditional dissolution. After helping clients with family law matters, Nik began helping clients file Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies. Nik has spent over four years working exclusively in the field of consumer bankruptcy, and has filed over 500 Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 consumer bankruptcy cases. In addition, Nik has argued on behalf of his clients before the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel of the Ninth Circuit. Nik is currently admitted to practice law in the State of California, as well as the United States District Court of the Southern and Central Districts of California.
